A Note from Dr. Genz
I’ve always lived a more “crunchier” lifestyle, particularly after having kids - cloth diapering, making home made organic baby food when possible, breastfeeding, and maintaining an overall conscientiousness of what I put into my mind and body. I meditate twice daily and would love to become a yoga instructor one day. The mind-body connection is powerful and real.
Professionally, I’ve harnessed my love for solving puzzles into a curiosity for figuring out why a person has dental disease, and not just merely finding a way to treat it. In the fast-paced world of insurance-driven corporate and private practice dentistry where I began my career, this kind of curiosity was always out of place. We were pushed to “Drill, fill, bill, and get the patient out of the chair.” Many patients I encountered had learned to accept and expect the same standard, and resented my approach: “I’m just here to get my teeth cleaned; you’re just a dentist, why do you care about my overall health? I’ll just do what my insurance covers because that’s all I really need. My teeth are all gonna fall out anyway.” I grew tired of perpetuating this cycle of disease and hopelessness I saw on a daily basis.
